Good news and bad news...

Bailey to Mommy first thing in the morning: Well Mommy, I've got good news and bad news.

Mommy: What's the bad news?

Bailey: Weeeellll, it has to do with Ama going to jail.

Mommy: ...

Preschool time already?!

Well, Bailey had his first day of preschool last week (pictures to come)...he's in Mrs. Trouble's class (her name is actually Mrs. Strobel but hey, who's keeping track?). In anticipation of this event, I spent quite a bit of time contemplating how he would behave at school. Part of me suspected he would act just like he does at home (and probably get expelled during the first week) and part of me (a VERY small part) wondered if he would be a little more shy since it was people he didn't know, in a place he'd never been. Which do you think it was?

During the first visit, they have what's called a "gradual entry" where they have the parents stay and it's just for one hour and they do an abbreviated schedule of how the normal days would go. During the drive to preschool, Bailey says to me "Mommy, why do you have to stay? Can't you just drop me off?" Um, hello?! I thought I would have at least a few more years before he was trying to shake me off at the curb. I said "No. I'm staying." Within the first 5 minutes of school, he had zeroed in on a little boy named "Luke" (or "Wuke" if you can't say your "L" sound right). I think it's because he has a cousin named Luke but that's probably just a desperate mom grasping for straws. He walked up to this little boy and said "Hi Wuke! My name's Bailey Edward McGlothlan!" and then threw his arms around him and tried to give him a kiss...on the lips. Of course, little Wuke was horrified and while pleading with his eyes to his mom for help, he managed to extract himself from Bailey's clutches. But wait, there's more. During story time, Bailey kept inching closer and closer to Luke (I was trying not to intervene, just to let the teachers handle it)...suddenly with the "inside voice" he doesn't have, he goes "WUKE! CAN I SIT ON YOUR WAP?" What? No! There shall be NO lap sitting in preschool. I turned to Luke's mom and said "I'm just so sorry."

Of course, he was the only child in the class that couldn't sit still or be quiet for the 3 minutes they had circle time that day. When it came time to sing "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" he leapt to his feet and said "I WILL SING THAT ONE!" and proceeded to belt it out at the top of his lungs. Mind you, Bailey got the Andres gene for singing talent...the one where you're always out of tune and you have no rhythm...so all of the parents (including his) burst out laughing, which only made him sing louder and have a very big, dramatic finish.

Of course, he gets all that dramatic flair from his dad. :)

The Daddy Store

Yesterday Bailey and I were having lunch together. As we were eating, Mark was unloading some stuff we bought at Costco.

Bailey (3.5): Mommy, we didn't have a Daddy so we buyed one.
Mommy: We did? Where did we buy him from?
Bailey: The Daddy Store.
Mommy: The Daddy Store? How much did he cost?
Bailey (thinking long and hard): YOU, Mommy. YOU had to pay $5 for him.
Mommy: Five dollars? Wow, we got a good deal.
Bailey (holding up 10 fingers): Yes, trains are this many. Because they're bigger. And stronger.

Daddy wasn't sure what to think about this. My question more revolves around the fact that he came up with all this out of his crazy imagination. I love this kid.

Hugs

This morning when I was getting ready to leave for work Bailey came over to give me a big hug and kiss. He said "have a good day, Mommy...I hope you get lots of hugs from your friends at work." Ah, thanks buddy!

The cops...again?!

Bailey (3.5): Daddy, I run so fast I'm gonna get a ticket!

You want the what?!

Yesterday after Bailey woke up from his nap I asked him what he wanted to watch. This is how it went:

Bailey (3 1/2): I want the damn show.
Mommy: You want the what?
Bailey: The DAMN one.
Mommy: ...
Bailey: You know, Mommy the damn movie.
Mommy (thinking Ama has some 'splainin' to do): ...
Bailey: The damn Thomas show, Mommy!

*Realization hits*

Mommy: Oh you want the Thomas show about the DAM?!
Bailey: YES, Mommy, the dam movie.
Mommy: The dam Thomas is in the van so we'll have to watch something else, okay?
Bailey: Okay, Mommy.

After last week's outburst of "When the police get here, yell 'POLICE!' and then hide...we always hide when the police come."...I'm starting to think we need to childproof the TV when Ama's in charge. :)

Bloggin' Slacker!

I have been so lazy lately and haven't been blogging because I've gotten in the habit of posting the kids' antics as my status on Facebook. This probably isn't the best way to document memories in the long term sense. I promise to be a better blogger.

The kids are getting so big and they are changing so much each day. Bailey just gets more hysterical as the days go by. I don't know where he gets his dramatic flair but boy, is he dramatic! :) The other day I handed him a yogurt that he had asked for and he grabbed it and hugged it and petted it and said "oh yogurt! I've missed you *so* much! I'm *so* happy to see you! You're the best yogurt EVER!" Really? Hmmm.
